Organic and Eroded Animal Sculpture
Since the beginning of my sculpting work I aimed at organic shapes and the inclusion of eroded surfaces. At one point one of my early customers asked if I knew that I do ‘Wabi-Sabi’. I did not, but researching this Japanese art aesthetic revealed that I did in fact have the same concept: Aiming at imperfection, at a non-industrial, used and aged appearance that speaks of history. As a fossil collector in my childhood, I know of the age of life on earth, and that is expressed in these eroded looking sculptures - as well as the awareness that all life is vulnerable.
